Monarch Kitchen & Bath Clients Say it Best on Homestars

Choosing a company you can trust to renovate your home can often be a challenge for homeowners. As kitchen and bath designers for over 35 years, we understand that the best way to put your mind at ease is to let you read what our happy clients have to say and present you with the facts you need to make the decision that's right for you.

From Homestars.com:

My wife wanted her kitchen renovated and after asking around to friends who had had a kitchen renovation we decided to approach Monarch Kitchens to ask for a quote. All of the staff at Monarch kitchens made us feel welcome and took a lot of the stress out of such an intimidating project. Right from the start to the finish the renovation was done in an extremely professional manner. Most people have had scary stories of booking with various contractors who didn't keep their word. Monarch was not like that at all. In a world that says "Buyer Beware" Monarch was a very welcome exception. I can say without a doubt that Monarch has very high ethical values and stood by their word every step of the way. They were always on time, on budget and had excellent workmanship. 10 out of 10 stars to Monarch Kitchens and all of their staff. I have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone wanting professionals to help in home renovations.

We recently had our kitchen and powder room renovation completed by Monarch Kitchen and Bath. Our first meeting with Monarch was with Kevin, who came by the house to thoroughly reviewed the space and spent much time with us to discuss our vision for the powder room and kitchen renovation.

Kevin completed 2 design plan options and took the time to go over each of the plans with us. We visited their extensive showroom to make choices for flooring, cabinets, counter-tops, backsplash, and hardware. Kevin was very friendly, patient, and helpful throughout this process and we never felt rushed. He consistently kept us updated on costs in order to ensure we stayed within our budget.

For the most part, the work was completed as outlined on the schedule provided. We were always informed of any change in schedule. Everyone, including the plumbers and electricians, as well as the cabinet, flooring, counter-top, and tile installers were all very professional and addressed any questions and concerns we had in a timely manner. We are extremely happy with our beautiful new kitchen and powder room. Thank you to Kevin, Neil, and each and every member of the Monarch crew for all of your hard work and expertise. We would not hesitate to recommend Monarch to anyone looking to renovate their home.

The Fourth Step to Renovation Success: Do a Progress Check

Kitchen design by Monarch Kitchen & Bath Centre

So far this month
, we have discussed how crucial planning is to your renovation's success, the importance of hiring
a RenoMark™ renovator and why having a written contract is an absolute necessity for every home renovation project.

The fourth step to your kitchen or bath renovation success involves keeping the channels of communication open throughout the renovation project to avoid any issues that may come up.

In "Read Before You Renovate," Renomark notes that it's not uncommon for a homeowner to request changes or ask for additional work. Because these new requests can affect the cost and time it takes to complete the project, they stress the importance of having a signed change order that details:

  • the precise scope of work;
  • the costs involved for the changes;
  • an updated timetable for completing the renovation.
"Clarity and transparency are very important to us," says Monarch designer Jackie Schagen. "If unexpected issues arise during the renovation process, we explain the options and their cost implications to our clients so they are able to make informed choices."

The Third Step to Renovation Success: Get a Written Contract

Over the last few weeks, we have discussed how crucial planning is to your renovation's success and the importance of hiring a RenoMark™ renovator. In this blog post, we'll review why having a written contract is an absolute necessity for every home renovation project.

When you've made your decision to hire a contractor, get the details in writing before any work begins.

In "Read Before You Renovate," Renomark advises homeowners to ensure all contracts include:

  • the precise scope of work;
  • the exact price, including a schedule of payments;
  • a reasonable timetable for completing work;
  • and any instructions for protecting parts of the house not under construction.

Iron out all the details before signing the contract.
Once construction begins, significant changes to the design plan or material choices can cause delays and incur added costs. If your renovator and design professional aren't seeing eye-to-eye on procedures or materials, make sure the issues are resolved before the contract is signed.

At Monarch, you will receive copies of your approved final detailed plans, as well as documents outlining the exact products and services we provide.

Avoid renovators who offer to work without a contract to avoid a HST payment.
While it may be tempting to hire a renovator who is willing to work without a signed contract (and save you the HST), it should also serve as a red flag. The renovator may also not be paying provincial worker's compensation coverage or carrying adequate insurance, leaving you at financial risk.

The Second Step to Renovation Success: Hire a RenoMark™ Renovator

Toronto kitchen design by Monarch Kitchen & Bath Centre

Last week, we discussed how crucial planning is to your renovation's success. In this blog post, we'll discuss the importance of choosing a RenoMark™ renovator such as Monarch Kitchen & Bath Centre.

Why a RenoMark™ renovator?

  • RenoMark™ renovator members believe in professionalism. They are committed to their industry and to their businesses and are willing to pay annual dues to keep informed and to help educate consumers.
  • RenoMark™ members have legitimate business licences. They do not support the underground economy of renovators who avoid paying taxes and operate "fly-by-night" and "cash only" businesses.
  • RenoMark™ members are informed. Information and education are important benefits of membership. Our member contractors are the first to know about changes in building codes, municipal requirements, health and safety regulations and more through our courses, information sessions, and communications program. Local Renovator Councils meet regularly for industry updates and information exchange sessions.
  • RenoMark™ members are "in-the-loop." It makes sense to hire a renovator that is part of an extensive home building and renovating industry network. Our members are in touch with manufacturers, suppliers, and experienced trade contractors. They know what's new and where to get it.
  • RenoMark™ members offer peace-of-mind. Joining this association program is your sign that a renovator is concerned about fair and honest quotes and reliable start and finish dates. They understand that keeping the lines of communication wide open is the key to a successful job.
  • RenoMark™ members subscribe to the association’s general Code of Ethics applicable to all members plus a renovation-specific Code of Conduct. It's all about integrity. Our members believe in treating not only their clients appropriately, but also deal fairly with trade contractors and employees.
  • RenoMark™ members offer a wealth of advice. Put them to work for you in the planning stages of your renovation. Our members can offer design and technical advice to achieve designs you may not have thought possible. They are a call or email away.
  • RenoMark™ contractors take care of the details. Hiring a professional means that the details like ensuring all necessary approvals and permits are in place, all employees and sub-contractors have the provincial workers’ compensation coverage, and obtaining the appropriate insurance are not only taken care of, they are readily available to you for your assurance.
  • RenoMark™ members offer a warranty and after sales service. A contractor committed to professionalism will offer you the coverage you need. Under the table deals leave you no recourse - so make sure your renovator spells it out on paper. Our members will also provide you with a written list of referrals so you can check on their performance and expertise.
  • RenoMark™ renovators are members of the local home builders association. A crucial first step in knowing that you’ve hired a professional.
