4 Ways to Make Your Cottage Kitchen Design More Efficient

Even though we've seen more cold and snow this spring than we have all winter, summer fun at the cottage really is just a few months away. In fact, it won’t be long until you open the cottage for another season of relaxation and good times with friends and family.

Is your cottage kitchen up for all that entertaining?
If you’re thinking of re-designing your cottage kitchen before the summertime fun begins, you’ll want to keep a few things in mind.

Open Concept Works Best
If visiting friends and family are helping with meal preparation, a small kitchen can seem even smaller when there are six hands trying to prep a meal for hungry guests. An open concept kitchen design will not only feel bigger, but it can become a bigger kitchen by incorporating eating areas into its space.

Lots of Drawers
In order to act as an effective multi-functioning space, the cottage should have an allocated storage spot for everything. And what better way to organize your expanding and unmatched containers than in a nice deep drawer? Maybe even an easy-to-reach drawer to store the kid-friendly plates so your little helpers can help set the table!

Quick Cleanup Means More Time to Relax
Life at the cottage is about fun, relaxation and enjoying the company of others -- it's not somewhere you need to keep spotless 24/7. When selecting the finishes for your kitchen cabinets, floors and counter tops, remember to select surfaces that are easy to clean.

A Wet Bar Where You Need It
If you like to kick back, relax and enjoy some drinks on the deck, consider keeping a wet bar with a small fridge outside of the kitchen space to avoid congestion in the kitchen at meal times. It will draw those in need of refreshment away from the workspace, and ensure a safe and uncluttered prep area.

Are you ready to renovate your cottage kitchen?
The design team at Monarch is ready to help you create the cottage kitchen of your dreams! Call us at 905-686-2001 or drop by our showroom today.

New at Monarch: Nuheat Floor Heating Systems – An Energy Efficient Way to Heat Rooms in Your Home

If adding warmth to the rooms in your home is a priority this winter, Monarch Kitchen & Bath Centre may have the answer you’re looking for. Perfect for your home, cottage or
condominium, Nuheat is a clean, soundless floor heating system that brings warmth to any space.
The applications for Nuheat can go beyond simply the bathroom or kitchen, and can serve as more than just a luxury. If rooms in your home comply with modern insulation requirements for your region, Nuheat can act as an effective and efficient heat source. This means less dependence on additional heat sources, as well as reduced energy costs associated with heating.

Nuheat’s standard mats (squares and rectangles) are ideal for most room layouts. Nuheat Mats are 1/8″ thick, easy to install, energy efficient, and can be controlled using a variety of programmable and non-programmable thermostat options. Our electric floor heating system can use one or a combination of in floor heating mats to deliver under floor heat for the entire room. Nuheat in floor heating mats come in over 60 different standard sizes and are available in both 120 & 240 volt formats.
If you’re tired of paying for heating rooms in your home that you rarely use, Nuheat’s zone heating feature can help save you money.
Zone heating using a programmable thermostat, means heating room-by-room, use-by-use – heat only where you want, when you want it. Electric radiant heat allows homeowners to lower their central heating system while still being comfortable. It offers an energy saving alternative to keeping the forced air heating system running throughout the entire house and can help reduce a home’s overall energy consumption. And because Nuheat has no moving parts and once installed is safely encased in thinset/mortar, Nuheat is 100% maintenance free and will last the lifetime of your floors.
Visit the Monarch showroom to learn more about incorporating Nuheat into your upcoming renovation. If you’d prefer to install the flooring yourself, Monarch sells standard mat sizes and thermostats to D-I-Y-ers, too! Our lead times for ordering non-custom mats are now shorter! Call 905-686-2001 for more information.

Ready to Renovate? Book with Monarch and Get the Kitchen You Want in Time for Fall!

After a winter spent indoors, you may be ready to say goodbye to your drab, outdated kitchen and ready to embrace a brighter, more efficient living space.

No matter how well you plan for the disruption of a major kitchen renovation, there's nothing that quite prepares you for the daily inconvenience of preparing meals and doing dishes in a temporary kitchen. As the heart of the home, your kitchen is more than a place prepare and eat meals; it's the central gathering place for most families.

Renovating your kitchen during the summer months has its advantages:

You can go on vacation.
If you have young children, it's often easier to leave for a week at the cottage or an extended road trip once they are out of school. You may not be able to avoid living at home during the entire period of upheaval, but you can reduce the amount of stress your family feels by planning to be away during some of the "messier" periods of your renovation.

Weather permitting...you can eat in your outdoor kitchen!
Polish up the patio set, turn on the portable CD player, set the table and VOILA! You've got yourself a temporary kitchen away from the dust and mess of your kitchen renovation.

You can barbecue more and eat take-out less.
Eating at restaurants and bringing take-out food home is not only expensive, it can be tiresome, as well. Fortunately, the Internet offers seemingly endless creative ways to use your barbecue to grill meat, poultry, seafood and vegetables.

You can breathe easier!
With any renovation, there will be dust. Sure, you can close off rooms, shut all the doors...but the dust will follow you everywhere―except outside. Grab a book, your laptop or a deck of cards and head outside for a breath of fresh air.

You can clean less -- nice weather means less mess!
From the time tear down begins to the moment you sit back and enjoy your new kitchen, there is an enormous amount of traffic in and out of your home. When renovating during the summer months, you reduce the amount of dirt tracked through your house. And with any major renovation, a table saw is often a contractor’s best friend. During the warmer months, the saw won’t need to be set up in your garage, porch or basement. That means less dust floating around your home.

Are you considering a kitchen renovation? Monarch has been making homeowner's kitchen renovation dreams a reality for over 30 years. Drop by our showroom or call us at 905-686-2001 to book a consultation with one of our kitchen designers. But hurry, Monarch’s summer schedule is booking up!

Looking for a contractor in Cottage Country? Integrity Construction and Monarch team up with spectacular results!

It's that time of year again. The birds are chirping, the air is warming and the cottage has started calling your name.

While it may be a bit too soon to open your cottage, you can get ready for the warmer months at The Spring Cottage Life Show, on this weekend (April 5th to 7th) at Toronto's International Centre (Airport Rd. & Derry Rd.).

Enjoy a day of free seminars, presentations and cooking demos; discover new products and services from industry professionals; even rub elbows with HGTV personalities Colin and Justin. Hosts of Colin & Justin's Home Heist, this popular design duo have recently purchased a cottage in Muskoka, Ontario, and are ready to share their cottage design and renovation plans.

While you are at the show gaining inspiration and dreaming about all the things you'd like to change at your own cottage, you may wonder how to go about finding a qualified contractor you can trust so far from home.

Look no further than Integrity Construction Services out of Lindsay, Ontario. An industry leader, Integrity is a full-service company that specializes in the custom designs and builds of both homes and cottages. Recently, Integrity sought out the services of Monarch Kitchen and Bath Centre to design and install the kitchen and bath at a whole-cottage renovation they performed for Moira and Roger Ashby.

The Ashby’s 100-year-old cottage is located in beautiful Bobcaygeon, Ontario. Integrity Construction transformed what was once a small, outdated cottage into a stunning home-away-from-home the Ashbys can now welcome friends and family over the warmer months. It was our pleasure to consult and coordinate with the Ashbys on the selection of such key design elements as their kitchen cabinetry, countertop, backsplash and tile.

Here is the cottage BEFORE the contractors at Integrity Construction began work:
