Introducing Ridgeline - Cambria's Newest Countertop Edge

Cambria's Ridgeline Edge shown in Ellesmere

Often referred to as a double pencil edge, Cambria's new Ridgeline Edge has a simple yet bold profile with a 1/8" radius.

A double-pencil edge is frequently chosen because of its smooth, comfortable feel. It can be used in relaxed atmospheres where people lean against the edge of the counter or sit at a breakfast bar.

The Ridgeline Edge is available in depths of 2 cm, 3 cm, 4 cm and 6 cm.

Why Choose Cambria?

Cambria's natural quartz surfaces are durable, stronger than granite and non-porous (NSF 51 Certified), making them as safe as stainless steel for food preparation.

A Bathroom Design with Toddlers in Mind

Recently, Monarch Kitchen & Bath Centre was asked to transform the washroom at First Steps Childcare Centre in Pickering into a more toddler-friendly space.

“Going potty for a child can be a very traumatic experience,” says Monarch president Neil Samson.

With the average toddler ranging in height from 24 to 30 inches, stepping up onto a foot step or stool to tinkle is a lot to navigate while learning bladder control.

“For an adult, it would be comparable to stepping on a two-foot high step to reach a three-foot high toilet bowl,” says Neil. “As you can imagine, toddlers are concerned about falling into the toilet or falling off the step, all adding to the stress of making it to the washroom in time.”

Designed by Marion Cuddie, the new washroom at First Steps features all the right components to make a toddler’s potty-training experience as pleasant and stress-free as possible. Staff members say the children love using it because they feel it fits for them.
“If you look carefully at these sinks, you will notice they are 18 inches high, as opposed to a normal bathroom sink which is 36 inches high,” explains Neil. “In order for a child to get their chin up to a standard bathroom vanity countertop, they have to stand on a 1’ high step stool, just to get their chin up there. We have also added motion-activated water and soap dispensers. These are toys to the kids and they love to wash their hands.”

Monarch Kitchen & Bath Centre can convert any washroom into a toddler friendly environment that will reduce the stress of potty training. Contact us today at 905-686-2001.

How is Your Custom Countertop Made? Monarch Designer Jackie Chambers Live Tweets from Latitute Countertops

A few weeks ago, Monarch's design team toured Latitude Countertops' Toronto manufacturing facility and designer Jackie Chambers took her Twitter followers on the tour along with her. In case you missed it, below are the highlights from day.

A favorite granite of designer Jackie Chambers is Bianco Antico.

CNC machines ensure your countertops are cut with precision!

A perfectly mitered edge is important with countertops, and having the right tools is a necessary part of the process. With less quality tools your mitered edges can chip and be very rough.

The kitchen template is laid out directly on your slab, this not only reduces waste, but it also ensures that the best looking parts of the stone are used.

Solid surface slabs are HEAVY! Machines can help lift the pieces into place ensuring that the staff remain safe.
All of the slabs are tagged on site at the quarry. This way, our manufacturer knows where it has come from, what series it is, and can ensure that all of the slabs used for your kitchen design will come from the same cut.
Our countertop fabricator has a high standard for the quality of their countertops, ensuring that an edge is book matched for the closest match possible. This creates a seam that becomes less visible.
Latitude now offers a 25-year sealer for all granite counter tops. This allows the granite to become virtually stain proof and similar in quality to quartz. This eliminates the need to seal your countertops every six months. In fact, Latitude is even able to seal the granite already in your home in just a few hours.

How to Clean Your Caesarstone Countertop

Consisting of up to 93% quartz, Caesarstone surfaces are designed to last. Blending modern sophistication and timeless luxury with unbeatable strength and durability, Caesarstone surfaces require only simple and routine care to maintain their beauty.

Caesarstone's hard, non-porous surface does not require sealing and in most cases, can be cleaned with soap and warm water or a mild detergent. If necessary, a non-abrasive cleaner such as Vim Oxy-Gel or a mild degreaser can be used.

Adhered materials like food, gum, or nail polish can be scraped away with a plastic putty knife. Any marks left by the blade can be removed with Method Daily Granite. Just make sure to thoroughly rinse the surface with clean water to remove residue.

Use the chart below to help tackle each of your cleaning challenges as they arise. If you have any questions, call us at 905-686-2001 or drop by our kitchen and bath showroom at 1020 Brock Road., Unit 6, Pickering.
